With the changing of the seasons comes the onset of allergies. And colds. And general feelings of “bleh.” While no one is immune to these shifts in season and health, there are steps you can take to resist falling ill and to make your bouts with allergies and colds shorter. One of my favorite remedies is Ginger Lemon Tea. I make a big pot of it the moment I feel the slightest twinge of sickness coming on, and I’m able to head off illness at the pass. This flavorful little tea is packed full of power, and it never fails to do the trick.
Ginger has been known for it’s healing powers for centuries. It is claimed that ginger eases pain and nausea and well as stimulating saliva production (perfect for those sore throats!).
Lemon is also known as a healing fruit. It is rich in Vitamin C and flavanoids which help fight infection. The naturally occurring phytonutrient hesperetin also has been shown to help ease allergic symptoms.
Honey - this tea’s secret ingredient - lends it’s powers of cough suppression, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties as well as soothing sore throats to this tea.
These three ingredients work together to have you feeling better before you feel worse!
Ginger Lemon Tea:
Add 2 TBSP freshly grated ginger to a pot of boiling water. Boil for one minute.
Strain into a mug. Add the freshly squeezed juice of ½ lemon.
Add 1-2 TSP of honey.
Drink while hot (but not too hot! You don’t want to scald your tongue!)
Repeat as necessary.
If you’re like me, this tea will knock any creeping illness out of you before it has a chance to truly take hold!
